The small historic town of Nokomis, with a population of over 3,000 is located near the Gulf of Mexico. The town was founded in 1868 and named after the grandmother of Hiawatha, immortalized in Longfellow's poem.

Nokomis Beach is Sarasota County's oldest public beach comprising 22 acres with 1,700 feet running alongside the Gulf of Mexico and 3,200 feet along the Intracoastal Waterway. This area is known for its stunning white sand beaches.

With a sparkling backdrop of 28 lakes, Calusa Lakes is situated on 460 wooded acres with 575 single-family homes and a challenging golf course. Life at Calusa Lakes offers residents a natural environment surrounded by pines and oaks along with indigenous natural surroundings in a tropical setting. The community features a guard house, tennis courts, 18-hole regulation length semiprivate golf course, and more activities than you can imagine.

Residential opportunities in Calusa Lakes include homes in both maintenance and maintenance-free areas. Most homes are set on large home sites with lush vegetation. Among the dense, native woodlands, Calusa Lakes' residents have exceptional views from their homes of the many lakes, preservation areas and fairways, along with enough space to allow privacy from golfers.

Calusa Lakes is a deed-restricted community. All homeowners are voting members of the association, while five homeowners are elected to and comprise the CLCA Board of Directors. Their mandate is to support the Association's interests, values, and responsibilities. They set policy and oversee compliance of the Community's protective covenants and restrictions. They budget and contract for the upkeep and safety of all community property, including its infrastructure, enhancements, landscaping, tennis courts and security system.

Calusa Lakes' homeowners show pride in every detail of their homes and their community.
